What We Offer

What More Could You Want?

One of the most popular whale watching destinations in North America; an unobstructed, unparalleled view of spectacular Nova Scotia coastline; a private beach surrounded by lush green forest; a pristine, rugged shoreline that begs to be explored and photographed, all await you in the ultimate private, secluded cottage rentals.

Graham’s Pioneer Retreat is on a magnificent fifty-acre property at Centreville, Digby County. There are four cottages, built on a hillside, overlooking St. Mary’s Bay, the body of water that separates Digby Neck from the Nova Scotia mainland. Saint Mary’s Bay is a branch of the famous Bay of Fundy, sharing the same high tides. There is a private pebble beach (great for beachcombing), beach bonfire area, and access to miles of wooded hiking trails along the rugged St. Mary’s Bay shoreline. Join us for a wonderful evening at a beach party. Watch the night sky for falling stars. See the Milky Way!

The self-catering cottages are newly built and designed to be functional and comfortable. Each unit has a large deck, propane barbecue and panoramic view of Digby Neck and the bay (to observe local fishing boats, seals, porpoise and various species of birds and shorebirds). The interior walls of locally milled knotty pine are warm and inviting. Each cottage has all of the amenities including a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker and propane fireplace. Everything is provided – pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, bedding and a great selection of and books.

Our Cottages

Enjoy the Tranquility, Feel the Serenity, Share the Felicity, Find your Solace.

Tranquility Cottage is on the highest elevation of the four cottages. The panoramic view of St. Mary’s Bay is breathtaking from the deck that surrounds two sides of the unit. The cottage sleeps four. There is a single bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a comfortable double sofa bed in the main living area of the cottage.

Serenity Cottage is one of the two-bedroom units and the cottage nearest St. Mary’s Bay. The nearby pebble beach is perfect for beachcombing. The cottage sleeps six; one bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the other a double bed. There are two comfortable single ‘love seat’ sofa beds in the living room for additional guests.

Serenity Cottage from the beach.

Felicity Cottage, like all of our cottages, has a clear and unobstructed view of St. Mary’s Bay. What makes this unit unique is the gazebo, just out the kitchen door. Here you can relax, enjoy the view, and entertain friends, in your own private refuge. Felicity sleeps 6, each bedroom has a queen bed and the sofa pulls out to a double bed. The cottage is bright, and the kitchen well-equipped.

Solace Cottage is our newest unit (and becoming one of our most popular). This single bedroom cottage features a large master bedroom with patio doors that look out on the bay, and a comfortable double sofa bed. There is a large deck that surrounds two sides of the cottage for maximum panoramic viewing of the beach and ocean below.

Much of the furniture in Solace Cottage was hand-made by a local cabinet maker.

What is the nearest town to your establishment? How far are you from Halifax and Briers Island? Are there restaurants nearby? Do you have any avaliability for Sept 3 – 10? If so, what is the price?

    Thanks so much!

      Hi Jessica,

The nearest town is Digby, Nova Scotia, about a two hour drive from Halifax. The ferry to Long Island at East Ferry, Nova Scotia is about 15 minutes away. You take a second ferry from Freeport, Long Island to Westport, Brier Island – that ferry is about 15-20 minutes from Tiverton (on Long Island, where the first ferry docks). If you have children they will love the ferry rides to the islands – and for $5 return on each ferry, it’s a steal!

As for restaurants, there are several in Digby and numerous others (many of them well-known) in the nearby town of Annapolis Royal (a great day trip from our location).

As for availability, the best thing to do is give me a call at: 1 800 839 2590. I can tell you on the spot what days are available.

      Talk soon..

      Linda

Hi. is Solace available from 6/26 through 7/1? How close to the street is the cottage? Are all of your cottages within sight of the others?
    Thank you.

Hello Carl. Thank you for your inquiry to stay with us at Graham’s Pioneer Retreat.
With our newest cottage, Solace, 3 of the cottages are now within sight of each other. Felicity Cottage is the only cottage that can not be seen from the other, offering the most privacy.
The retreat is on a 50 acre lot. Grahams Drive, the road to the cottages, is a private road. It is about 3 miles long. Grahams Drive runs parallel to the main Digby Neck road for about 2 miles before going down the hill to the cottages and beach.
Solace Cottage is available for the 26 June to the 1 July. Please call to make your reservation.
      Linda

Hello, I was browsing the Nova Scotia websites for a 2011 summer trip and found your accommodations to be the most inviting. So I’m wondering if you have accommodations for four adults (two couples) requiring two bedrooms. The first choice for us would be the Felicity cabin and the second choice is Serenity.

The following is a list of weeks that we could vistit: June 26-July 3, July 10-July 16, July 24-July 30, and Aug 7- Aug 13

John thanks for the wonderful compliment. Felicity and Serenity are both very nice. One looks up Saint Mary’s Bay and the other looks out the bay. They both have a great view of the Bay, Digby Neck, and the mainland. Please call for dates and cottage availability.
